In April of this year I underwent major surgery. When it came time for me to be discharged I was neither feeling well enough or confident enough to be returning home where I live alone. On my arrival home to my apartment unable to care for myself my daughter stayed with me for a few days. During this time we were able to assess the amount of assistance I would require, once she returned home to her family. The staff at Honeybourne Gate were wonderful and very quickly ordered the necessary equipment I needed,
Arrangements were made for the personal assisted care I required and for freshly cooked meals to be brought to my apartment direct from the restaurant each day. A member of staff popped in regularly, happy to assist if necessary, even if it just meant making a welcome cup of tea and a chat. I felt safe knowing someone would answer my call bell and be with me immediately any time of day or night.
At Honeybourne Gate nothing is too much trouble in assuring that owners are happy and relaxed in a friendly environment.
Gone are the days when going into care/assisted living meant living in fear of becoming ill or incapacitated and as a consequence being asked to move on.
Obviously I appreciate if my care needs ever require specialist permanent 24hr nursing care, I would need to move into an appropriate place of care, which would be the case wherever I lived.
Today I am well and my future is bright, I am enjoying taking pleasant walks along the old Honeybourne railway line and visiting the Churchill gardens. Very soon I hope to be taking the short walk into town.
I can not thank everyone enough for their kindness and care that went a long way to making my recovery such a success.

From the first time I spoke to Julie on the phone to enquire… no pushy salesman ship just wanting to ensure it would be the right move for Mum at 90, to everyone who helped patiently as we sorted the move. The friendly professionalism of: Maria organising the purchase of the apartment, Amanda at Fresh-start, the removal team and Josh the handyman were invaluable. Nothing was too much.
And since moving in I have seen a big change in Mum as she has acclimatised to her new surroundings. After nearly 50 years in her old house, it was a big move but she had become very lonely and isolated relying on me for daily visits and wanted to move. I worried if I’d made the right decision but our first impressions were right. 100% the right choice!
All the staff have been so lovely with no question too much trouble and always on call. While Mum is still very much independent the half hour daily care package has meant Mum has got to know many of the carers through their daily chats and she has grown to trust them to help out with showering and bits of shopping. Their caring and companionship is much appreciated.
She was made to feel welcome from move in day by the other residents with flowers and welcome visits. While it has taken time, she has grown in confidence going down to coffee most days and regular lunches with a cheeky wine 🍷 even!!! It is lovely to hear about the friendships and companionship she is clearly building. To every one of them a big THANK YOU.
The reason for the thank you is not only has the move transformed Mum’s life for the better it has also transformed my life… I have been able to step out of carer role into daughter role. This summer I have been able to enjoy 3 weeks of holidays knowing Mum is safe with someone their immediately at the press of a button if needed and reassured she is happy and settled. For years I have struggled to get away for more than a few days knowing how much stress it caused Mum.

“After my husband died, I decided to move from my house in Essex to be nearer to family in Cheltenham. A friend of the family already lived in Honeybourne Gate and was very happy living here.
The process of selling took a long time, but the sales team were really helpful, liaising with my solicitors and estate agent and gently pushing the process along when things slowed.
